DESCRIPTION
Lead Designer
The Lead Designer is responsible for creating usable, standards-compliant, attractive, modern online interaction interfaces. The Lead Designer is responsible for creating innovative, intuitive, and future-friendly web designs to deliver next-generation media experiences. The Lead Designer works collaboratively and closely with internal and external resources to push the boundary of what’s possible, taking advantage of the newest frameworks in finding uncommon ways of solving problems that surprise and delight our audience. The Lead Designer ensures consistency in the information architecture and user experience. The Lead Designer must be an advocate for usability at all times in order to provide guidance on incorporating user research methodologies into the product design and development lifecycles.
Duties:
- Creates and designs interfaces for mobile and desktop web experiences
- Ties the interface into the overall Institution look and feel
- Integrates social media visually into the interface
- Utilizes storyboarding and graphic pre-designs
- Develop wireframes, mock-ups, storyboards and prototypes to effectively communicate UX requirements, design features and functionality
- Create graphical Photoshop mock-ups, ensuring compliance with existing design style guides/rules
- Utilizes personas
- Determines layout breakpoints and determines design responses to breakpoints
- Works in tandem with other developers
- Create simple mock-ups to depict screen / visual changes that impact the user experience
- Designs creative approaches that address navigation & information architecture
Skills Required:
- Client interface experience
- Prior experience participating in large, integrated teams including client and other third-party vendors
- Ability to work in a dynamic work environment and ability to coordinate and perform multiple assignments
- Experience within full lifecycle development initiatives with cross-functional development teams
- Ability to design compelling user experiences across multiple form factors - mobile, tablet, and desktop
- In-depth understanding of user-centered design principles and tools
- Previous Section 508 development is a requirement
- Strong conceptual skills and experience developing innovative user experience solutions
- Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities
- Strong knowledge of task and use-case analysis, heuristic analysis, and user personas
- Understanding of online design, marketing and advertising
- Keen design sensibility and a passion for user experience, from high-level concept to pixel-level detail
- Strong production design experience preferred
- Superb graphics and UI design and development skills
- Good understanding of mobile design patterns
- Ability to learn quickly, comprehend and apply new and emerging technologies in an effective manner
- An understanding and respect for the front-end/GUI as a mix of art and science

- Human Factors International - Certified User Experience Analyst
