Time is very valuable to most people. Responsibilities, relationships, and hobbies generally fill our waking hours. Most students and professionals will ask a very valid question…. Why should I invest time studying for an industry certification? This is a wise question to ask. We should ask ourselves why we should spend time on many things that occupy our day. As I have told my students in the past, if nothing else, passing an industry certification test will build your self-confidence. These tests are meant to be rigorous so that the certificate means something to employers, college deans, professors, and to the individual. Many of my fond memories of teaching are of students who worked hard and never gave up trying to pass an industry certification test. The satisfaction that comes from achieving something that you have worked hard for is priceless.

Secondly, the achievement of industry certifications on a resume boosts its credibility. Not only does it speak to your skills, but it also demonstrates that you have positive character traits. These tests for the novice require self-discipline to continue the effort required to pass a test. Every person brings different learning challenges to the table. For some learning comes easy, but for most, learning requires hard work. Speaking of experience from one where learning was difficult, passing these tests is possible with the right attitude.

Most individuals entering into a career that requires specific skills struggle to get traction at first. Having a strong resume helps build a bridge that carries a person into the career path that they desire. The individual will enter an interview better prepared, and they will enter their career with demonstrated success that they can achieve!
